Singapore Day 3 (Part I): 01/25/14

It's been awhile since I've posted, sorry about that. I've been busy with job hunting last week since there was a job fair at school. Also, I've been fixing the itinerary for our next family trip. So excited! I hope it pushes through. Anyway, I decided to make day 3 into 2 parts since I have so many photos!

Tiong Bahru Market and Hawker Centre // 30 Seng Poh Road, #02-74
Before going to the festival, we had hawker food in Tiong Bahru. No wonder Tiong Bahru Food Market and Hawker Centre is one of the most popular Hawker centres in Singapore, street food at its finest! It was my first time to try sugar cane juice with lemon as well. Although some people find the taste weird, I surprisingly liked it.

Tiong Bahru Bakery // 56 Eng Hoon Street, #01-70

Afterwards, Trina brought us to this artisan bakery, just about a 3-minute walk from the Hawker Centre, called the Tiong Bahru Bakery by Gontran Cherrier. They served all kinds of freshly-baked pastries, breads and sandwiches, as well as coffee, prepared in latte art! I ordered the Chocolate Almond Croissant, and it was D-I-V-I-N-E.

The Jezabels were already playing when we got there, followed by Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Kurt Vile. I'm not really familiar with the earlier bands, but they're quite good.

The St. Jerome's Laneway Festival was held in The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay. As seen in the photo above, there were already a lot of people when we arrived around 2 in the afternoon. I went with Trina, Brian and Issa. I also met up with my friends later that day. The early part of festival was quite chill since most of the people were just sitting on their mats while enjoying the music. There were also booths like H&M and Dr. Martens, wherein you can avail of freebies, and enjoy the photo booths that they've set up.

After Kurt Vile was Frightened Rabbit, an indie rock band from Scotland. I like their songs, "Swim Until You Can't See Land" and "The Woodpile."

It was already getting dark when the London-based, post-punk revival rock band, Savages was playing. Jehnny Beth's performance was so amazing and powerful. Women empowerment! lol

Stay tuned for part 2. The night performances (Jagwar Ma, Haim, CHVRCHES and James Blake) were my favorites so you definitely don't want to miss those!

Cheers,
Michelle
