Work it: Stylish must-haves for the #ladyboss

Thursday, July 14, 2016

My mother has taught me to always dress well in the office, no matter what industry you're in. She also explained to me that there have been studies and articles before suggesting that people who dress well have higher salaries. I've even heard about companies who actually consider looks when hiring candidates, especially in the PR, sales, and of course, aviation sectors.

Since my previous companies were quite lenient about the dress code, I don't really have a lot of business attire. However, I made sure to at least have a decent number of work staples to maintain that professionalism, but still show a hint of my personal style. Here are my 6 fashion pieces for the workplace:

Skirt

I told myself that if I were to become a #ladyboss someday, Zara would easily be my top choice of clothing for the office. Their stylish pieces are elegant and timeless, making them a trailblazer in the apparel retailer industry. Even the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, considers Zara as one of her favorite fashion brands! People even become crazier during sale season! Get this pinstripe skirt now for only P 795.00.

Co-ords

Model, mother, cook, writer, host, swimsuit designer — if there's one Lady Boss that I admire, it's definitely Chrissy Teigen. Now, she is the new face of contemporary clothing brand XOXO; a perfect fit for the classy and sophisticated woman. This XOXO checkered print jumpsuit is now available at Zalora for the ultimate power play to dress for success.

Blouse

As mentioned in my previous post, Uniqlo is my go-to store for high-quality fashion apparel, especially when I need my basics. This Rayon long-sleeved blouse is available in 6 plain colors: white, light gray, light orange, light green, olive and navy blue.

Blazer

With the perfect cut and fit, a blazer can surely up your fashion game, making you look even more professional and distinct. Personally, I really like this elbow-patch cotton blazer from Mango because first and foremost, it has elbow patches (which I'm oddly obsessed with), and secondly, for its color and structure, making me feel like I'm a respected lad back in the 20th century!

Culottes

When the Culottes first came out, it honestly looked weird to me, and I swore I would never wear such an atrocious thing! Few weeks later, I ate my words, and donned the most comfortable pair. We all have those "lazy-to-dress-up" days, but Culottes are absolutely life savers, plus they're very versatile and chic.

Shop at the SM Store.

Dress

My favorite local fashion brand would probably be Plains & Prints for their trendy, yet functional, ready-to-wear apparel. With over 74 stores across the Philippines, including an online presence in Singapore and Australia, Plains & Prints truly caters to the modern and sophisticated woman.

Plains & Prints is available online.

Whether dressing well leads to a higher salary or not, I still believe it's extremely important to look appropriate at the workplace to make a first and lasting good impression.

Cheers,
Michelle
