1. I can do whatever I want at my own pace.
When I travel, I always do my own itinerary and research because I don't want to waste my time going to places that don't interest me. When you travel alone, you only think about the places you want to go to, and don't have to consider anyone else's preferences. Also, traveling alone gives you a grasp of your own time to sufficiently explore all the places you want to go to — Good-bye, early shower schedules!
2. I'm forced to socialize with people.
Even if you're traveling solo, it's still good to have some human interaction, may it be with your hostel bunkies or that passerby you've just asked to take a photo of you on the streets. As a matter of fact, it's actually easier to make friends with strangers when you're alone because you don't just stick to your own group, and sometimes, you even meet fellow solo travelers along the way.
3. I get to save money.
As a budget traveler, I always stay in hostels with dorm-like accommodations. This type of room is commonly the cheapest one, but not everyone will be comfortable with this kind of setting. It goes the same for food, shopping, sightseeing, and nightlife activities; it really depends on the people you're with. Traveling alone gives you the freedom of not having to think of anyone but yourself.
4. I become more independent.
Sometimes, there are unavoidable circumstances during your travels, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying your trip. Solo traveling allows me to handle these minor "detours" in the best way possible. Being alone in a foreign land really pushes you outside your comfort zone, and hey, sometimes you even surprise yourself!
5. Traveling alone makes you appreciate the beauty of the world.
I've traveled to quite a decent number of cities, but somehow, it still feels like I haven't seen much of the world. Traveling alone exposes you to places you've never thought you'd experience in your whole life. It also makes you realize how interconnected people are, and that the world is truly small.
How about you? Do you prefer solo or group travel?
Cheers,
Michelle
