My Top 5 Job Search Websites

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Having just ended my internship in Innsbruck last April, I came back to the Philippines having to search for a new job that could (hopefully) launch my career. I normally don't post about work in my personal blogs before, but I just want to share my favorite websites that I usually use to job hunt online. I hope you find this post helpful and informative.

Pros:

  • Has numerous, if not — the most company and job listings
  • Easy-to-use advanced job search
  • On a personal note: Recruiters are actively seeking for applicants on this website. Most of my invitations for job interviews came from viewing my JobStreet profile or applications.

Cons:

  • Outdated user interface
  • Since the website is very popular and widely used, the competition for jobs is also immense.

Pros:

  • Modern, easy-to-use user interface
  • Two-way SMS messaging
  • On a personal note: I prefer the website's selection of companies, plus the job-hunting experience feels more personal with the occasional emails from your "Career Coach."

Cons:

  • Grow its jobseeker base

Pros:

  • Large network of recruiters
  • Their app, LinkedIn Job Search, is very convenient when you're on your mobile. Download for iOS and Android.
  • On a personal note: Since my LinkedIn profile is complete, it can also serve as somewhat like my CV/resume, considering all my professional work details are displayed there already.

Cons:

  • Several companies would still link you to their company websites to apply.

Pros:

  • Great website for anything startup-related  news, job opportunities, fundraising and a coactive community
  • Easy search filters, which even allows remote work and visa sponsorship.
  • On a personal note: As someone who wouldn't mind working in a startup, this website is filled with thousands of tech companies such as Tinder, Forkable and Wunder.

Cons:

  • Only applicable for those who want to work/invest in startups.
  • Most job locations are in the United States only.

Pros:

  • Anyone with a Facebook account can join these groups.
  • Instead of applying in job search portals online, where there is greater competition, a lot of posts already contain specific email addresses for interested candidates to submit their applications.
  • On a personal note: My favorite groups include Startup PH: Jobs, DLSU Jobs and Internships, and Filipino Creatives Careers.

Cons:

  • Facebook Groups only actually advertise job openings, not the facility of being able to apply directly like the websites above.
  • Since anyone can join these groups, spam posts are sometimes inevitable.

Even if we are living in a digital world, I still do the old-fashioned job fairs from time to time, as well as asking my connections if they have openings in their companies. It's all a matter of personal preferences and strategy. I'm just really thankful job hunting in these times is much easier, more efficient and freely accessible to all.

Cheers,
Michelle
