Game of Thrones: Dubrovnik, Croatia

During my 4-month stay in Innsbruck, Austria, I promised myself that every month, I would travel to at least one country that I've never been to before. There are too many places on my bucketlist, but being a huge Game of Thrones fan, I really wanted to visit the show locations. Aside from being the most accessible, Dubrovnik (A.K.A. King's Landing) really peaked my interest because of its distinctive old-town charm; the whole city was surrounded by massive stone walls. It was absolutely one of the most beautiful cities I've been to in my life.

I booked myself a round-trip ticket with Croatia Airlines, and even got to explore Zagreb due to an 8-hour layover. The airline tickets, I must admit, were pretty pricey (P 9,000), but Croatia itself was very affordable! I recommend staying at Hostel & Rooms Ana (Old Town) since (1) it's the only hostel in Old Town, and (2) it's near the tourist attractions - Very convenient! I only spent around P 3,800 for four days.

Lucky for me, a lot of the Game of Thrones locations were already close by to the Old Town, and some of them were even found INSIDE. From Old Town, these locations were easily accessible by foot:

Known for: King's Landing

  • Myrcella Baratheon’s send-off to Dorne

  • Cersei Lannister, Petyr Baelish, Sansa Stark and Shae

  • Cersei Lannister’s Walk of Shame / Atonement

Known for: The mob riot caused by King Joffrey Baratheon

Known for: Numerous market scenes

Known for: The House of the Undying

Admission: 120 KN (City Walls ticket)

Known for: The Red Keep / The Battle of the Blackwater

Admission: Free with City Walls ticket; 30 KN

Known for: The Purple Wedding (King Joffrey Baratheon & Margaery Tyrell)

How to get there: 10-minute walk from Old Town
Admission: Free

Known for: Sansa Stark meets the Tyrells

How to get there: The Trsteno Arboretum is located in Trsteno, a 25-minute bus ride from Old Town. From the main bus station, take bus no. 12 (Dubrovnik - Slano)
Admission: Adults - 40 KN; Students - 25 KN; Children, 14 years and below - 25 KN

It was truly a DREAM visiting all of these amazing places. Hopefully someday, I can visit the Game of Thrones locations in Ireland, Malta, Spain and Morocco as well.

Cheers,
Michelle
